Rajit Kapur is a National award-winning actor of Bollywood. He won National award in the year 1997 for potraying Mahatma Gandhi in the movie, The making of the Mahatma. Apart from “The Making of the Mahatma”, his memorable roles are Shyama Prasad’s Agnisakshi (Malayalam), Dam 999, Ghulam, Guzarish and Shaitan. His portrayal of Byomkesh Bakshi in a television series of the same name made him a popular actor of Indian homes. He is a popular theatre artist also.

His portrayal of Unni, a Brahmin who upholds traditional culture of Brahmins in Hindu society of Kerala during early 1900’s in the movie “Agnisakshi” was also one of the most memorable performances of this actor. Though he appeared in many commercial movies like Ghulam, he is most popular with parallel cinema. His debut film was Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda (1992) directed by Shyam Benegal. Rajit has been a part of offbeat movies like Mammo (1994), Sardari Begum (1996), Ek Alag Mausam (2003), Train to Pakistan (1998), Zubeidaa (2000), Well Done Abba (2010) and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero (2005). He has also narrated Indian short film, Bomgay in 1996. This short film was directed by Riyad Vinci Wadia and had Kushal Punjabi and Rahul Bose as leading stars. It was regarded as India’s first gay film and was controversial for gay sex scenes. Among his roles in commercial movies, his role as elder brother of Aamir Khan in Ghulam is the most noted one. He has also appeared in Do Paise Ki Dhoop, Chaar Aane Ki Baarish, Yeh Mera India and Welcome to Sajjanpur.
